The Mt Hagen Provincial Specialist Hospital’s Children’s Ward has received a major boost with the donation of 10 brand-new children’s wheelchairs from the Port Moresby Rotary Club. 

The donation includes five size 12 and five size 14 wheelchairs, specially designed for children aged 5–12 years. Each wheelchair features removable armrests, swing-away footrests, a red powder-coated steel frame, black nylon fire-resistant upholstery, heavy-duty front castors with polyurethane wheels, and rear mag wheels with solid tyres. Built for durability and ease of maintenance, these wheelchairs will greatly assist young patients, though they are not intended for children with advanced disabilities requiring specialized seating.

The wheelchairs, weighing more than 10 kilograms each, were airlifted from Port Moresby to Mt Hagen last week by Hevilift at no cost, demonstrating their commitment to community service. From there, Kuta Kofi Mills stepped in to provide canter transport from the airport to the hospital, ensuring the equipment reached the hospital safely.

The Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority head, management and staff have extended heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Port Moresby for their thoughtful contribution to Mt Hagen Children’s Ward, Eagle Foundation for its consistent generosity in supporting the hospital. The PHA also acknowledge Hevilift Mt Hagen, which stepped in to airlift the wheelchairs free of charge, and Kuta Kofi Mills.

Together, these partners have demonstrated how strong commitment and collaborations can unite to strengthen healthcare services and ensuring children across the Highlands region have access to essential medical equipment that will ease their mobility, provide comfort, and improve their quality of care during hospital stays.
